Growing-finishing pigs
Every year, Schothorst Feed Research finishes approximately 10,000 growing-finishing pigs at its own practical-scale facilities and small-scale research facilities. Our practical-scale facilities contain pens with nine to fifteen animals per pens. The specialized research departments contain 56 IVOG feeding stations that measure the individual feed intake of the pigs. In this facility, we can study the effects of feed, sex and breed on an individual basis.
The pigs in our small-scale research facilities are housed in small groups of two to four animals per pen. This department is suitable for digestibility studies or more specialized research related to growing-finishing pigs. Schothorst Feed Research also has metabolic cages in which growing-finishing pigs can be housed individually. These metabolic cages are perfect for ileal digestibility studies.
