Schothorst Feed Research is a private knowledge and information centre which, together with the clients, develops and implements animal feed knowledge so that the clients can produce innovative, competitive and socially acceptable animal feeds.
Vision
Animal feeds play an important role in animal production. Feeds supply the nutrients required by animals for efficient production. Feed costs are high. Depending on the animal species, these costs vary between 50% and 80% of the total production costs. It is imperative that animal feed manufacturers avail over a sound knowledge of the price-quality ratios of the ingredients they use. These price-quality ratios depend on the animal species, age and production phase of the animal, and the quality of the feedstuff itself. A proper evaluation of ingredients for animal feeds will become increasingly important in the future because West European livestock farmers are continually forced to reduce their cost price due to global competition. Furthermore, the animal feed sector itself is increasingly faced with competition when buying feedstuffs due to the growing world population, strong global growth of livestock farming, and the fact that feedstuffs are used for industrial and energy applications.
