Threonine requirement of broilers with Clostridium infection

Schothorst Feed Research has performed a trial for the threonine requirement of broilers during a subclinical Clostridium infection. A higher threonine:lysine ratio (thr:lys ratio) did not reduce the incidence and severity of the infection, but improved production performance. A thr:lys ratio of 0.67 resulted in 129 g higher growth and 148 g higher feed intake compared to a thr:lys ratio of 0.63 over a production period of 37 days. It is advised to use a thr:lys ratio of 0.67 to 0.70 (as standardized digestibility) during Clostridium infection. Results are published in the journal Poultry Science (volume 91, pages 643-652, 2012).
